In the year 1917, British archaeologist Howard Carter started excavation in the Valley of Kings with the help of a rich British citizen Lord Carnarvon. 

Treasure found in the basement

Howard Carter was excavating with his team in the Valley of the Kings. During this time, suddenly one day his shovel hit a cellar buried under the sand. But the way to the basement was not visible anywhere. Carter tried his best to find the way to the basement. Finally, after two years, he was successful in finding the staircase going inside the basement. Let us tell you that in November 1922, when Carter entered the basement through the stairs, his eyes were dazzled to see the stuff inside.

Treasure in the basement

Let us tell you that the ancient Egyptian Pharoah Tutankhamen was buried inside the basement. During this time, there were a total of 4 main rooms in the basement, an antechamber, an annexe, a burial chamber and a treasury room. The first room Carter opened contained a coffin. When this coffin was opened, there was another coffin inside it and a third coffin inside it too. This coffin was made entirely of gold. Inside this third coffin was kept the mummified body of King Tutankhamen, which had remained untouched for 3000 years.

What was found in Tutankhamen’s tomb?

Carter And his team found a small temple in another room of the basement. In which some parts of Tutankhamen’s body were kept. It is believed that when his body was wrapped in mummy, some body parts were removed. In this room there is a statue of ‘Anubis’ the god of death in ancient Egypt. A gold statue of was also found. Carter and his team found priceless treasure in another room. Which he named Annex. There were artworks on the walls inside this room.

According to a report, there were more than 2,000 objects inside the annex. Such things which a king uses in everyday life. Such as clothes, precious jewellery, bed, chariot, pillow, entertainment items, throne etc. are present. 

It took 10 years to count the items

So many things were found inside Tutankhamun’s tomb that it took Carter and his team 10 years to list each item. There were more than 5000 such things and the most precious and valuable thing was the mask placed on the mummy of Tutankhamun. All this was made of solid gold and other gems and was in perfect condition. Let us tell you that the things found from Tutan’s tomb are kept in the Cairo Museum of Egypt.

Who was Tutankhamen?

Tutankhamen died in 1332 B.C. He became the Pharoah of Egypt. At that time he was only 9 years old.
